_{The cat, whoever’s cat it was, clearly didn’t want to be caught. Always walking just of out reach, matching his pace stride for stride on four legs instead of two. And, yet, Kaito couldn’t bring himself to abandon it in the forest. The collar around its neck meant it belonged to someone, and if he could just get close enough to read it, he could return it to its proper owner!}

_{He was going to get lost, at this rate, but he couldn’t leave the poor animal to fend for itself. He’d find the path he wandered off of eventually – with the cat. Always the optimist, he was, and it wasn’t as though the forest he wandered through was particularly frightening. The sun was out, and the air was peaceful.}

_{Eventually, the chase led him to a cabin. The cat stopped at the door and mewled plaintively. With a sigh of relief, Kaito scooped the animal into his arms. He was getting his work out today, surely. He looked at the tag, smile slowly fading. What should have gave an address only gave a name – Kuroneko, scratched into the plate in a messy script.}

_{Well, now he didn’t know what to do. He had been able to put off thoughts of being lost for the moment, but no longer. Maybe whoever lived in this cabin had a phone? Assuming anyone even lived here. At any rate, maybe they’d have some idea of where the cat lived – it had stopped here purposefully, didn’t it?}

_{Hesitant words paired with a purposeful knock at the door as he shifted the cat into one arm. Marshmallow liked to be carried, so he was quite used to multi-tasking with a feline in his arms.}
